Greek and Chinese Philosophy: A Comparative Approach

讲座摘要

A comparison between Greek and Chinese philosophy aims at an open and fruitful dialogue between two different traditions that are distinguished by the same unwavering belief in moral values. They are the sources from which our societies get inspiration also in our days. Moreover, the study of Greek and Chinese philosophy is of fundamental importance for the study of the Western and Eastern world in their entirety; two worlds that are still not adequately familiar with each other. Thus, a dialogue between the two ancient civilizations is extended beyond Greece and China, including people with diverse cultures and of different ethnicities because they both are the foundations of the Chinese and Western spirituality.

主讲嘉宾介绍

Elena AVRAMIDOU is an Associate Professor of Philosophy specializing in Chinese and Greek Philosophy and a member of the Steering Committee of the UNESCO Chair on Threats to Cultural Heritage and Cultural Heritage-related Activities, Ionian University, Greece. She is also Research Fellow at World Arthistory Institute, Shanghai International Studies University, and at the Center for Latin-American Studies, Andres Bello University, Chile; and Consultant Specialist of the World Sinology Center of BLCU.

She has taught at Peking University, and served as Educational & Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of Greece in China. She is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the International Confucian Association and of the Working Group for the implementation of the Greek-Chinese Translation Program of Greek and Chinese Literary Works running by the Greek and Chinese Ministries of Culture.She has published several papers and books in Greek, English, Spanish, and Chinese on Greek and Chinese philosophy and culture, including the cultural perspective analysis of the Belt and Road Initiative.
